For My Fellow Authors: Stop Trying to Sell Books, Start Selling You!

If you're like most authors, you're probably thinking about ways to increase your sales. You may be trying to sell your books through online retailers, or you may be meeting with agents and publishers to get your work into print.

The problem is that selling books is not the same as selling you.

When you're selling books, you're selling a product. You have to convince the buyer that your product is worth buying. You have to sell them on the idea of what your book can do for them.

Selling you, on the other hand, is about selling yourself. You have to sell the buyer on the idea of who you are. You are the story teller, you are the author. The reason why the book is good is because of you.

If you're a published author, you already have a following. You already have a following of people who are interested in your work. You already have a following of people who are interested in what you have to say. It's time to start using that following to sell your books.

Instead of going to bookstores and pitching your books to complete strangers, start pitching your books to people who are likely to be interested in your work.
